SUBJECT SELECTION

At Trident High School, we offer a rich and varied curriculum to provide our students with a well-rounded education. With a focus on academic excellence, practical skills, and personal development, our wide range of curriculum options ensures that students have the opportunity to explore their interests and discover new passions. We believe in equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary for future success in their chosen career.

Year 9

  • Students are in 'core classes' for English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and Physical Education & Health.

  • Over the year, students are exposed to 12 subjects which are grouped in three rotations. These taster courses are to ensure our students can make informed subject decisions moving into Year 10.

  • Students also have option choices of Te Reo Māori, Japanese, Spanish, Mixed Media Art, Outdoor Education or Ocean Studies.

Year 10

  • Students stay in their core classes from Year 9 for English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Physical Education & Health.

  • Technology rotation (Product Design, Engineering, Food Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing) is also compulsory.

  • Full year options of Japanese, Spanish and Te Reo Māori are available.

  • There are 12 subjects available as half year options including subjects such as Junior Service Academy, Drama, Whakairo, Outdoor Education, RoboTech, Visual Arts and more.

Year 11-13

  • A full range of academic subjects offered at each level.

  • Subject Planning Guide available.
    Whānau Ako Teachers and Deans support student progress.

  • Access to national and international programmes through the virtual learning network.
    Access to university papers for extension.

  • Scholarship programmes across a range of subjects.

  • Support classes for NCEA challenges.

  • Workplace learning through our Pathway Programme.

  • Futures Academy for vocational courses.

  • Whānau Ako Teachers work on academic life goals with students.

  • Dedicated Literacy and Numeracy Programmes to achieve new NCEA requirements.
